I have been developing my plein-air practice for many years, enjoying the challenge of creating artwork from life outdoors. The act of studying the world around me in this way is a meditative process; I allow my intuition to inform the work while savoring the view and staying mindful of the moment. I am grateful and humbled by every opportunity I get to spend outdoors creating artwork. Each place I visit is a chance to expand the scope of my practice, and discover something new about the world and myself.
Although I have created plein air artwork all over the world, the majority of my work is focussed on the forests, lakes and rivers of Ontario, where I was born and raised. I work with a portable kit of materials that varies according to season, location, and weather. I use a combination of drawing and painting techniques with gouache, watercolour, ink and coloured pencil on paper. The following is a selection of my plein air work from 2016-2019:
